365 Day Project
This June, Charlotte and I started this project that has us put up a photo a day following specific guidelines (fatmumslim.com.au) and it really is awesome. So far this is day 7 and it’s something that I want to continue. Maybe not her specific guidelines but each month, I want to find something new that interests me and use that for my 365 day project. I want a way to make a history of my last year in college through pictures and I think that this is a fabulous way to do so.
The Joy of Books
Many sleepless nights were spent moving, stacking, and animating books at Type bookstore in Toronto to create this video.

I think this is amazing. I love that they all organize themselves by color. Definitely something I would do with my books….if they weren’t already organized by author. Definitely my favorite blog site though.
Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
This is a book that you just can’t put down for very long. It seems like a long-winded book in the beginning but it’s necessary I think to get the full effect of everything that will happen in the later pages. There were parts in the book that I never dreamed of that would crop up. At first I thought it would go one way then it veers another and it was impossible to know what on earth was going to really happen in the end. The outcome fixed my need to know what happened though with a spectacular finish. Larsson did go into character development a bit too much for my liking and the beginning did seem to drag on quite a bit. I wish that the story of Harriet and the search for her wasn’t so far into the book and it seemed to make me a bit anxious with how many story lines were actually going on in the book. What with Wennerstrom and then with Harriet and then with the Vanger family, it brought up confusion as it all mixed around each other along with Mickael and Millenium and Salander’s story lines as well. Otherwise, the book was phenomenal.
-My review from goodreads.com
I know that the book isn’t exactly for everyone’s taste but it’s one of those books that everyone should give a try at least once in their life. Some people I know find it exceptional and others people find it exceptionally dull. Here’s a big advice for it though. Don’t watch the movies before reading the books! That’s all I’ve ever heard about this series. This is how I’m doing it: book, Swedish version of book, new movie that’s now in theaters. I just finished the book this morning so I will most likely watch the Swedish version soon. Just be known that it’s better, like most foreign movies in my point of view, to watch it with subtitles, not dubbed. It seems to take out character to me.
If you’ve read it what is your take on the novel?
I Love That Musty Smell
Books have always been my life. I thought of another NY resolution for this year. When the school semester hits I usually get tired of reading boring textbooks which sadly discourages me from reading my pleasure books. I really want that to change from now on. I want to be able to read every day if it’s even for just half an hour. I’ll force myself if I have to really. I’ve been going to Barnes & Noble a few times this week and just sitting and reading a book. I’ve gotten through a few chapters but that’s good for me being able to sit in a book store for a couple hours with people walking around and talking. I have a short attention span when people talk around me or are doing things around me. I’ve been reading Tolstoy and the Purple Chair. It’s about a woman who read a book a day for one year a few years after her older sister died. It’s really touching and definitely a good read.
It made me think about stuff though. I want to do the ‘one book a day’ thing sometime in my life for a year. That of course probably won’t happen until I’m older and have more free time to do so. I also want to make my own website where I don’t have to follow the guidelines of an already pre-ordained way to blog. I want to be able to have my own way of how I want my site to look and to have a section of reviewing books and life. Lucky for me, I have a class on programming and on web development this semester thanks to my major. So, hopefully I can start working on that soon.
Go read in a book store though. It’s an amazing thing to do and something I will definitely keep doing in my life.
I’m Really Just Five
Welcome to 2012 everyone! Hopefully everyone had a great time during the holidays with friends and family and a great NYE. Anyone make some good resolutions for the upcoming year? I usually always end up making some for myself but I question it. Is it really a good thing that people have to have a new year to come around just to make a resolution to change something about your life for the good? Should you be doing that every day? I try to each day but I get busy. For myself, I like making resolutions on the New Year and in the summer. That way I’m not busy so I can take the time to actually work on what I wish to change. For this year, I want to be more organized, work out, get to a position in my life where I’m comfortable and have a good outlook for my future after college. There are of course the smalls ones like being more creative and give in to my artistic side, read a ton more, and to cook more and eat better.
I have happily been reading this winter break. Sadly only two have been read. I completed The Hunger Games, which was amazing. I’ve been debating with myself for a good while about whether I really wanted to read the book or not. Then I saw that it was coming out in theaters and when happening to be at a grocery store saw that it was only $5. So I had to get it. It was actually hard to put down. It definitely kept you going and now I really want to buy the other two or borrow them so I can see what happens with the characters. The other book is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Of course, what I’ve heard about it is all true. It’s an amazing book that sucks you in and you just want to know. I had my doubts about it in the beginning because I always had thought it to be one of those mystery thriller books that my mom usually reads. I’ve never been into those books so I never had the urge to read it until now. I’m waiting to finish the book to see the movie and I’m waiting to watch the Swedish version after reading it to watch the new one that’s now in theaters. It’s exciting. Two books though? I think that’s sad. So I have two and a half weeks to read a ton more books before going back to being busy to the point of having barely any down time.
I really have the attention span of a five year old. I also do things like a young child would do. I got bored when I came back from Christmas in Utah and decided I wanted to paint on my desk. I had some stencils already and well, I think my desk looks awesome. I want to keep it and keep painting it as the years go by until it’s all covered. I guess that’s a head start to giving in to my creative side. I think it looks good. The picture above is only part of it. I have “Bee” on the top of it and then another swirl on the right side. There are also dark red and green stars that are hard to see in the sun beam across my desk. I’ve also gotten into being completely organized for school this upcoming semester. I have a binder for my school work and I have a binder for my chair position for ΔΣΠ all drawn up. Definitely completely set for the school year. I don’t know why I’m this anxious to start the new school semester. It might be the fact that I want more to do because I’ve had a taste of what it’s like to have my day completely filled up or it could be the fact that I’m now a Junior in my Spring semester and just want to have all my classes completed. Either way, I’m ready for winter break to be over, except for the fact that I just want to keep reading all day.
To top of this winter break, I got an awesome hair cut that I’ve needed for months now and the weather in Reno is spectacular. No snow and in the 50’s and 60’s is just the winter I love.
It’s been a while, I will admit. It’s not my fault though. I did say I had many things to do. My semester went into full swing and it is finally boiling down into a slow simmer of things to do until winter break. What have I been doing? So much school work and pledging for a business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. It’s a business fraternity and well it was a fantastic journey. Time management had to be learned along with professionalism and growing up some. It was quite excellent really. Looking back at it after initiation, it was the best semester that I’ve had so far at UNR.
Luckily, everything has calmed down now that school is almost over and the pledge process is over now. Now, I have the ability to calm down and do everything at a slow pace. With only a few assignments and tests left, it’s easier to take everything in stride and not worry so much. Just worry about the classes that I really need to move along.
There have always been the nice events that occur during the semester. Lately there has been, of course, initiation and then there is the cat. A cute little cat that wanted to come in from the rain and stayed in my room for the night nice and warm. It was hard to let it leave the next morning to its actual home but well, of course two of us being allergic, including myself, we just couldn’t. Of course there was also Thanksgiving at the Grandparents. We got the Thanksgiving dinner at Raley’s and it was amazing and so much simpler. It made the day more relaxed and easier on everyone really. It was also nice to have my own car so I could stay and be with my grandparents for just a little bit longer. They do have this tree though in their neighborhood right by the gates and it is just gorgeous. It makes me happy to be in California. It’s a beautiful state; especially during early Summer and Fall.
Now that everything is calming down I also have the idea that I may get to finally read again. It’s nice already to get a few pages in a night this week and then to watch shows while doing some homework is amazing as well. Watching a lot of No Reservations though makes me hungry and antsy to go to all the places in the world I want to go to. I guess it will have to wait but it needs to come fast. Also, Stumbleupon is one of the best things in the world really!
Of course, it’s sad to say that there have been bad parts as well. Stress, worrying about too low of grades, fires. There has been so many fires lately which is ridiculous as it is almost Winter. It’s sad though that the big fire Reno just recently had was right by where I grew up. So much land destroyed but all I can say is that I’m glad that everyone that lives over there that I know are okay and nobody’s house was destroyed.
So now with everything moving slower I feel back to how I want to be and not rushed. It’s calming and beautiful. I’ve always been an artsy person and now I just want to read more, paint more, draw more, cook more. It’s definitely a nice change. So, what has everyone else been doing with the beautiful Fall weather?
